I had to teach rotary Art to Gr. 7s during practicum - errr, excuse me? Art?
Can't I teach a gym class or something?
My mantra?
BRUSHES DOWN & ALL EYES ON ME PLEASE - small growl !
And (of course) I was the first one to stain her only white dress shirt with acrylic blue paint.
Bahhhh!
The ART TASK was: Build a 3-D structure using the four rings provide by teacher. The students could manipulate, cut or add other materials to strengthen their structures. All structures had to have a function with features that helped support that function.
E.g., An airpot building would need to have a design that illustrates ideas of taking off, the idea of flight, vacations, travel, day dreaming with fluffly clouds etc.)
*SPECIAL NOTE*
Traditional focal point of buildings/structures are normally entrances but for this project it was
strongly discouraged.
Easy enough, right?
Ms.Wells had to come up with some examples for students to see, right?
Relate to the real world, right kids?
Ugh!
But I take it all back because LOOK WHAT I FOUND !!!
Found in the former Soviet republic of Georgia, this is a border crossing building that separates Eastern Europe and Western Asia.
German architect (J.Mayer H, Berlin) wanted to create a structure that was welcoming rather than aggressive or off-putting.
"A boarder just doesn't divide two parts or create a limit: it also joins people"
(gotta love those germans)
This is my favorite - its a library! Found Huairou, China this library was made in order to blend with nature thus why the outside is not so pretty/esthetically appealing.
Over 40 000 wooden sticks helped design/cover the outside windows.
Unbelievable.
Hunger Games arena? Nope. Just Apple trying to create a campus-like fortress in California that will house 13 00 employees and be self-sufficient....even an orchard inside.
Hoping to be completed by 2017.
Something in our own backyard...Central Library in Halifax. Building will resemble four stacked volumes topped by an open access green roof - whoa! The buildings facade will be made of eye-catching light-filtering motif.
Should be done by 2014.
Might be a good reason to go and visit?
(clearly I have a thing for libraries or just good looking people reading books?)
Smiling.
