I don't normally like cake...

Cake is not my thing.

Really.

I am more of a chocolate girl, dark chocolate that is.

A lemon and limes on a cake? Really!?!
Naw, can't be good in cake...only in water...or so I thought.

I had an Ahhh - hAAAA moments at the wedding this past weekend. Wow!
I had thought that I was going to take one for the team and have to
PRETEND that I liked cake
(because one of my best friends was the baker)

WHERE THE HECK WAS THE TEAM???
The team should have been there HOLDING ME BACK!

Good gawd - not sure what was in that addictive, delicious,  lemony-white goodness
but I think it must have been sprinkled with crack- really!
I couldn't find anyone plates to lick because
EVERYONE LOVED IT JUST AS MUCH AS I DID!
(they gawd they had extra 12 pieces in the back)

hahah!

So...yeah.
So much for faking it!

Hats off to the baker!

When should I tell her I want her to do my cake?

ha!

Erin you are truly talented.

Fact.

Everything just feels backwards
(literally my typing is going in backwards right now and I have no idea why).

Could be the jet lag??

I feel like a keg of sand was just poured all over me and the weight is causing my head to sink

THANK GAWD I brought some good old fashion maple syrup

and

and old towels & sheets from home with stains from when I was a kid
to keep things real and happy in my head

A Guest Appearance...

Good Morning people of Lauren's world!  This is Erin making a guest appearance.  I know you don't know me... and I don't know you, but Lauren has begged me to make a guest appearance... something about being exhausted, Dhaka, wedding, quotes, yada yada yada.  It's always something with this one! Je joke Lo! Je joke!

Now, I don't have much to say, and I'm assuming she just wants something typed so y'all know she's still alive.   Don't fret, she's still alive, she'd call you but she lost her cell phone yesterday (a great Lauren Wells story... ask her about it some time!)

Today is the Day of the Eve of our dear friend, Tina's, wedding.  Lauren, being the Maid of Honour, is off to help the bride with last minute stuff.  I, on the other hand, have very little responsibility.  I only have to make a delicious, beautiful wedding cake for 80 people... no pressure.  I think Lo forgot about this part and that's why I'm sitting here typing instead of decorating the cake!

It is also the Day before the day before the day that my dear friend leaves on her great adventure.  I can't tell you enough how excited I am for her.  She is going to make Dhaka her home and win the hearts of those around her.  (If you're reading this and you're a new teaching friend of Lauren's - CONGRATULATIONS... you are a very lucky person to have her damn sunshine brightening your world!)  I am also so, so, so excited for her students. Lo, you're going to be one of those teachers who make a difference.  You're going to be GREAT... not just good, or average... GREAT!  Your passion, dedication, and enthusiasm are things to admired and emulated.

Wow! Don't know think that's where Lauren thought I would go when she asked me to write today. I think she thought it was going to be light and funny, but I'm tired and funny take energy!

So that's it... I'm going... a cake to decorate.  I'll have Lo post a photo of it... well only if it turns out properly!

Good bye friends of Lauren... I hope you all have a wonderful day... it's sunny and beautiful and I'm sure there's a patio somewhere calling your name- have a drink for me... or maybe I'll have one for each of you when I'm done the cakes! Yeah, that sounds like a better idea! I'll have a drink for you!  Thanks for being you and giving me a reason to drink (ha! now that was funny!!!)

Happy Friday to all...

BACK for BRIDGEHEAD and PRETTY DRESSES

I'm BACK!!!
Back in Canada (almost didn't let me in), back in O- town!
(nobody calls Ottawa O-town, do they?)
AHHH - already enjoying my bridgehead fix.
Mmmmmmm.
Coffee in the desh just ain't the same.

***
Good question, why back so soon?
Did I quit?
NOPE
Fired then?
NOPE (not yet...at least ha!)
Did I forget something?
MY INSANITY - YES!
But no, that is not the reason for returning either...this is why.

This lovely LADY is getting married, hitched, tying the old knot - whatever kids call it these days.
And I have the honour of being the MAID!
BOO - YEAH!
Maid of Honor that is.
Yes, I am going to have to brush my hair a little and clean myself right up.
That may take a while...but when I do clean up, it's not so bad.
Don't believe me?
Well crap...what can I say then?
Regardless,
FEELS SO GOOD TO BE BACK!
And SUPER EXCITED FOR THIS GRAND EVENT
and even more EXCITED TO SEE TINA and JL GET CAKE
ALL OVER THEIR FACES - bahahahaha!
And see so MANY wonderful faces...I'm peeing my pants already.
I'm gonna have to wear a diaper I am just that excited.
(some of you are shaking your heads at this last comment)
Too much information Lauren!
Who me?
NEVER!

Living life to the fullest these next few days.
Why not join the club!?!

Peter vs. Basil: Would You Eat That?

I was responsible for making dinner the other night
while looking after my niece and nephew.
I dunno what babies can and can't eat?
Alright, that is a bit of a lie.
I'm not a complete doorknob - normally.
I know they need food that is easy to chew or kinda mushy.
And young kids shouldn't have nuts...but that's it, right?
Check out what I served Baz...how old is he you ask?
 Ummm....a year and change?
I can't keep track.

Look at how this kid MAN-handles his ASPARAGUS!
Indeed, way better than you Pete!

He kept calling this a "na-na." I didn't have the heart to tell
him it wasn't a banana.
I didn't even get mad when he tried it, made a face and then spat it out!
Hah!

So...yeah this is what auntie Lolo made for dinner.
Homemade meat balls with mixed sprouted quinoa & onions & garlic.
Avocado, crunchy asparagus and
baked zucchini with your every day normal
brown rice.
Soooo what do we think of this menu Pete?
Would you eat that?
More importantly did Baz finish eating every thing on  his plate?
OF COURSE HE DID!
(he knows good food when it hits him in the face)

No pressure Peter.

p.s. Three cheers for Auntie Lolo, who is the best.
Hip-hip-hoooray!

Monday 20 August 2012

I know I said I wouldn't but...

CHECK IT OUT!

How many people do you think you can fit on a rickshaw?

Mmmm...one?
Two?
Three?
Four?
(Tell me that you love me more?)

You bet that is THREE!
This is my new neighbors Raimey & her husband Matt.
Yes indeed, my camera taking skills could use some
improvement.
We were in motion though - just saying!

(please be advised to never try this at home -
always have parental supervision)

New friends, new adventures, and I need NEW
sunglasses.

Period.

Arrived Safe.....and Some-what Sound

Life in Dhaka can only be described (so far) as

INSANE

COLOURFUL

DIZZY

INTENSE

CROWED

FRIENDLY

DELIGHT IN SIMPLE PLEASURES

MIX between SUPER developed and UTTERLY poor

and last but not least

90% MORE NOISEY and HOT!

I am a princess here and yet, still so unsure of how to
play my part.
Lauren you are a drama teacher for GAWD SAKES!
Learning so MUCH and school hasn't even begun.

PICTURES WILL SOON FOLLOW!
(literally my Internet connection just got put in, more like built and wired up through windows
and bars to my third story apartment - hah!)

Yes, of course I do.

Miss all of you and home.
Not enough to give up yet though - ha!

Next blog entry from Dhaka...

Every time I move away or leave the country I
NEVER
get enough time to say goodbye to everyone I want.
 Fact.

***

You'd think I would have figured out a system by now?
Nope. Not even close.
Sigh.

***

The only thing that I have learnt over the years about saying good-bye is
FAMILY FIRST
No really, FAMILY first.
Easier said than done - I have four siblings and a crap
load of nieces and nephews and than there is Mom and
Dad and wow...you're right.
How did I get so lucky?

***
So I drove to London, Ontario the other day.
To see more family, the woman who inspired the name of this blog.
My better half; Rhiannon.

Rhiannon won't say it but I know she doesn't like my driving.

She doesn't hide how she feels very well...
Jeez Rhiannon, lighten UP - I'm not THAT bad.
GawwwD, sisters!

This is the face of determination and focus.
I don't get it, who wouldn't feel safe driving with me?

Just fooling around with my shades at
Cora's while waiting for breakie...

That lasted a whole 2 seconds and then Rhiannon was like
"I'm hungry! When is it going to be ready?"
Again - ugh!
Sisters.

When it did arrive, ohhh was it ever HEAVENLY looking!

That's when the conversation stopped and Rhiannon suddenly
became all business.

I think her face says everything here...
...not impressed with my fooling around.

Five minutes later, I added my left overs to her plate.
Rhiannon HAD HAD a banana chocolate crepe...ended up with, well that!
What?
I couldn't say no.

When the bill finally came, look who is suddenly being
all nice and cuddly?
Typical Wells'ssssssss!
What a sucker I am.

***
All that said, I wish I could have gone out to
breakfast with more than just Rhiannon to properly say goodbye
but I just ran out of time.
For that I am sorry and a little dissapointed.
So all I can do is say a group (lame, I know)
GOOD BYE
and WISH ME LUCK!
(I am going to need it and will take ANY luck sent by
mail
messages
cards
food
pokes
thoughts
pictures
dark chocolate
hand gestures
and laughs)

***

p.s. If you ever find yourself in Dhaka, Bangladesh -
you know who to look up.

Lazy Day - Yeah riiiight!

Once upon a time, this was Leia....

Now she's all grown up, running, jumping, biking, painting her nails...
needing constant supervision.

GET EXCITED ABOUT  AN ALL DAY WORKOUT!

And you thought I was on vacation - Hah!

Wednesday 8 August 2012

Will I be addicted?

Made tea last night before bed and read the Yogi message and thought,

"Hey, that's what I'm trying to do!"

Inspiring others towards
happiness brings
you happiness.

No, not by doing this BLOG DUMMIE;

TEACHING OF COURSE!

I hope everyone finds or has the one thing (more than one thing for some people) that fuels them to wake-up every morning? Or makes them so passionate they total lose track of themselves and the time?

OR IS THAT JUST ME?

Teaching is going to be my new drug.
Man OH Man, somebody pinch me - harrrrd. But my sleeves are rolled, ready with my
fork and knife for my first challenge!

(big gulp)

psssst - Do you think anyone will notice
that my hands shaking?

(sigh)

I miss the lake already...

Tuesday 7 August 2012

My last day at the Lake of the Woods...

The whole week FLEW by and what do I really have to show?

Other than a burnt butt and half a book read...ugh!

Oh well, it was the BEST thing I could have ever done before
heading into the chaos of Dhaka.

Gulp.

Trying not to think about it too much - eeeek!
Some photos with my new camera!

This camera did not do the moon justice but every night was
SPECTACULAR - SPECTACULAR!

This is the new "bunkie" that my dad has been working on...
...he is already planning for all the kids that will be on the island.
What a dad, eh?

Malcolm found a worm and for the life of me, would NOT let me
touch it or play with it...it was his worm and I was forbidden to
take part.
"NO Lolo!" and "Stop it!"
and
"No I love you"
where common words from his mouth - ha!

Maybe he was jealous of the hat?

He is still a cutie...even if he was playing hard to get for the whole week!

Still not done reading it...but I'm getting there.

Have a good Tuesday? Is that what day it is?
Hah.

Sir John vs. Ms.Wells; HEATED TOPIC

I found out yesterday that my dad
(Sir John we like to call him- he's Welsh and has always claimed to be of Royal Blood)
(that's why the moquitos always go after him, he says
"They go for quality Lauren -
but you don't have to worry about that")

My dad feels very strongly about the issue of foreign aid.
To be specific, the money that Canada gives every year to impoverished countries from
our national GDP.
He is not a fan nor is he fond of this idea at all.
Why?
Because essentially he thinks that it's a waste of time.
Not in so many words but at his age (70-ish I think?),
he has seen so much aid money put in the wrong hands.
He does not trust where the money goes or the organizations
(maybe UNICEF he said)
which handles the redistribution of foreign aid money.
However, most countries in the world,
specifically the most impoverished countries,
(he points his finger mostly at African countries)
have a corrupt government that take advantage
of foreign aid money.
He doesn't trust where it goes.
My dad (like most people I would think)
want to see the change in government first instead of
essentially just "throwing it away" as he thinks.
And my dad is just talking his head off.
Sure, he is adamant about this topic but for good reason.
He is well read, watches the news,
reads the paper, has even travelled all over the world.
He has first hand examples of  corrpution.
He freaking lived in Africa for a while which
I DIDN'T EVEN KNOW!
"I'M TIRED OF WATCHING MY MONEY GO TO WASTE!
WHY NOT ST|ART WITH THE GOVERNMENT and THE COUNTRIES BLOODY POLITICIANS FIRST?
I WANT A GUARANTEE THAT MY MONEY
GOES TO THE RIGHT PEOPLE BUT UNTIL THEN
- IT'S ALL RUBBISH! "
At this point, he was yelling at me.
We kinda got in a bit of a
HEATED DISCUSSION.

It started when I showed him this...

This was done by UK Aid and I thought a good method of
informing the average person about their countries financial
involvement in International Aid but also
the BILLIONS of lives it helps save.
So...How much aid does Canada give?
In 2010, Canada’s aid rose to over $5 billion for the first time. However, the government says aid will be frozen at that level through 2015. Canadian ODA is now equivalent to 0.33 percent of the economy (GNI); the freeze is expected to reduce that figure to 0.28% by 2015. Canada’s current level falls well below both the agreed international target of 0.7 percent of GNI, and the current donor average of 0.47 percent. Canada gives less aid than countries of similar population and economic clout, like Spain and the Netherlands.

Did you know this already? Perhaps you did.
I had no idea.
But it's an interesting topic - no?
Why isn't Canada giving more foreign aid?
What do you think?

Personally, I would like to have another "discussion" with Sir John.
But perhaps after I get a little more field experience
and can see how this aid really helps impoverished
countries like for instance Bangladesh.

Until then, I'm not saying another
word about it - ha!

Kool to be SAFE!

It's really important to be safe, especially at the cottage.
Although I sometimes forget to wear my seat belt in the car...I NEVER
forget to wear my life jacket at the cottage.
(except when I am windsurfing or intoxicated...or both - ha!)
That was a joke.
So naturally, Malcolm seems to think he is too "cool" for life jackets
Who better to show him how KOOL looks than Auntie Lolo?

It started first thing this morning; put the life jacket for breakfast.

While my mom is making breakfast in the background,
Lauren is rocking the "kool" look.
As you can see, Mal is floored.
I make it look so easy, don't I?
I should have been a lifeguard.
*sigh

Small Aside: Remember last WEEK when I said I was working on
posts with a bit more substance?
Actually interesting? Maybe intelligent? Or I dunno,
THOUGHT PROVOKING!
Well it finally happened - I had a brain fart.
(It's a rare that this happens, in my head that is - bah-hahahha!)

Stay tuned for tomorrow's blog...tis a biggy!

Friday 3 August 2012

New camera/video working? Check.

Just wanted to try it out...who better to video that my nephew?
But the little buggar touched the lens - grrrr!
Then big *sigh
Did you see his face? Errr tongue?
I know, he's soo DANG CUTE that I couldn't help but smile.
(I swear this kid is gonna get away with murder)
And thank gawd he's not mine; no discipline from auntie Lolo

Yes, I am a teacher - BAH-HAH!
Looking forward to using this new camera in Le DESH!
Thank you again to my family who lives on top of a moutain.
;-)

You will hate me very soon - no doubt.

It's official.
I just slept 12 hours straight and am currently on the Wells
family island.
Yup, I did just said "island".
No big deal.
The name of our island (that indeed we share with 3 other family friends)
WILDCAT ISLAND!!!
Don't ask, my parents where hippies?
Maybe I'll find out while I'm here - hah!

LET THE GAMES AND ADVENTURES BEGIN.

Yay family reunion...EV!

More pictures to come from Lake of the Woods.

Warning: You may really hate me for the next week.

Tee-hee!
